Don't know the whole ins and outs but having also met the man and listened to him talking about how bad science should never be used in determining public health initiative I am also saddened if he has changed his stance. Will try and find out more about what happened before discussing further but feel very let down if what I have read so far is fact and I have no reason to doubt that it is...........
I think that you've summarised the situation very well Sally. Coming from you, the evident sadness and disappointment in Prof Coyne's behaviour (which most of us share) is all the more telling.
I wondered about the Saturday night aspect of his posts, but then there was no later apology. As you say, whatever his point was, it has been totally overshadowed by his irrational behaviour.
Thank you for this post Sally. As I said on Jeannette Burmeister's blog post such abusive and offensive comments targeted at patients are inexcusable. I fully support you and all the other true advocates for patients with ME.
This is very interesting. thanks for that. we need more sites like this. i commend you on your great content and excellent topic choices. international certificate of good health form 77 043 I wanted to thank you for this great read. I definitely enjoying every little bit of it I have you bookmarked to check out new stuff you post.

ReplyDeleteYes, "saddened" for him as well as for us I think.
DeleteSally you are the most reasonable person on Twitter as far as I've observed! If someone blocks *you* it doesn't say anything about you...
ReplyDeleteThank you Jenny xx
DeleteDon't doubt yourself. I think it would be clear to a Martian who has not been behaving themselves! xx
ReplyDeletexx Thank you for your support. xx
DeleteGobsmacked!
ReplyDeleteYes me too!

ReplyDeleteThanks Paul.
DeleteI read Jeanette coherent civil post - I can't believe he is not in drug or alcohol rehab this very moment for saying those things on public forums.
ReplyDeleteI don't care what his point is - it has been completely lost by his behavior.
Who does he work for?

DeleteThe listing for him at the University of Groningen doesn't work. Huh.
DeleteSorry - I didn't wait long enough. The listing worked - said he's a professor, Faculty of Medical Science.
DeleteI wonder if they are aware of his tweets?

ReplyDeleteThank you. The support of other ME peeps has been very appreciated. xx
DeleteInexcusable and incomprehensible. People are strange creatures.
